Meet Steven Mera

Steven is a bilingual speech-language pathologist completing his clinical fellowship year at Bilingual Speech-Language & Swallowing Therapy where he provides speech and language-related services to individuals from diverse backgrounds.

Steven received his M.S. in Speech-Language Pathology at CUNY Brooklyn College and his B.A. in Psychology at CUNY Hunter College.

During his time at Brooklyn College, Steven gained clinical experience in providing speech and language-related services to pediatric and geriatric clients. Steven has led an Aphasia Group with the purpose of providing a safe space for individuals with aphasia and related conditions to communicate with one another and help each other improve their socioemotional qualities. Steven also co-led a Transition Group with the purpose of providing services to young adults to help them with the process of transitioning from university studies to working careers and jobs.

Steven has been able to provide assessment and treatment services to pediatric and geriatric populations, with diverse backgrounds, in the areas of speech-sound disorders, expressive and receptive language disorders, autism spectrum disorder, aphasia, neurological disorders, cognitive disorders, and fluency disorders. He is hoping to expand his knowledge within the field to provide competent and appropriate services to all individuals with different and unique needs.

Steven’s passion for the field of speech-language pathology stems from his background in working with diverse groups of underserved individuals. He particularly hopes to provide services to those who have been unable to receive services due to “falling out of the radar”. He wishes to make impacts, be it small or big, while continuing to advance and grow in the field.
